A 16-year-old boy died in a house fire on Plutolaan in Roermond on Tuesday morning. His mother and 14-year-old brother were rushed to the hospital with severe injuries, the Limburg police reported. The police suspect arson.<br />Emergency services responded to a report of the fire at around 7:45 a.m. on Tuesday. First responders found the injured 14-year-old and his mother on the street outside. The other boy’s body was found inside the home.<br />The fire brigade used an aerial platform to combat the blaze. The fire had spread to both the front and back of the house, a spokesperson for the fire brigade told De Limburger.<br />Locals told the newspaper that the mother and her two boys lived in the house. They also said that the family was having problems. The authorities would not comment on that to the newspaper.<br />A police spokesperson told De Limburger that the focus is now on aftercare for locals, firefighters, and police officers who handled the response.<br />Forensic investigators are at the scene to determine the cause of the fire. “The police are seriously considering arson,” the Limburg police said in a statement.<br />Mayor Yolanda Hoogtanders visited the scene to offer support to relatives, neighbors, and first responders. The fire was “intense” and “difficult for everyone,” she said. “We will investigate the situation and then release more information. As mayor, I will determine what aftercare is appropriate.”
